How do we preserve our historic record?
How do we pass our collective knowledge onto the next generation?
As the AIA we need to take it upon ourselves to establish and curate our digital catalogue.
What do we do with our old drawings and models in the digital age?
Every library in the world is rapidly transforming their physical collection to a digital one. We need to make a concerted effort to rescue and preserve many of the drawings, models and sketches that showcase the practice of architecture, especially the design studies, old models and details that are not candidates for MoMA and Avery’s collections before they are discarded.
How do we listen to our senior architects?
It is vital to preserve their oral histories of our elder statesmen before our collective memories are lost. They are the only ones who can share what it was like to study under Kahn, know Le Corbusier and collaborate with Mies. The tragedy of covid brings this to the forefront.

Digital Library and The Podcast Project
We have been creating a digital library by introducing the next generation of architects to the last. We spend our summers visiting their offices and learning about how they approach design. To date there are over 2500 podcasts. Unfortunately, we have recorded voices of architects who are no longer with us. All of this is posted on the cultureNOW MuseumWithoutWalls site.
